HONOR FLIGHTS

Did your father serve in the military? If so, he may well qualify for one of the Honor Flights that leave from all over the country and head to our nation’s capital. Founded in 2005, the Honor Flight Network has so far taken more than 200,000 vets to Washington, DC, to visit the National World War II Memorial.

Originally focused on vets of WWII, they are now also honoring those who served in the Korean and Vietnam Wars with flights to Washington, DC. Wayne Heple, a veteran of the Korean War, recently took part in a flight along with his son Larry, who’d come along as a companion. Due to the age of the participants, bringing along a friend or family member is a requirement. “Overall, the hospitality everywhere we went was exceptional,” Wayne said. “And so tightly organized; it was like watching a world class symphony perform a masterpiece.”
